Male Floating Substance Support Worker
Description and application instructions:
This post is based at Bradford Day Shelter. The Male Floating Substance Support Worker will provide support to clients in their own homes focusing on housing issues and substance use, this may be existing tenants or people living in temporary accommodation. The post also involves providing harm reduction advice, developing individual support plans and referring on to treatment. The work will require liaison and networking with a wide range of agencies and individuals including specialist drug agencies, housing organisations, primary and mental health care, education and life skills agencies, family and carers. This post is exempt under Section 7(2)(b) of the Sex Discrimination Act 1975. This post is funded until 31 March 2011.
The successful applicant will:-
• Have a detailed knowledge of issues relating to substance misuse
• Be able to relate well to people from a diverse range of backgrounds
• Be aware of the range of agencies and resources available to the client group
• Be able to engage with clients, treatment and housing providers to assist the client to maintain their accommodation
• Have an awareness and understanding of a range of possible interventions
• Be sensitive to the cultural needs of black and minority ethnic communities
• Monitor and evaluate the work undertaken
