Refugee Resettlement Worker
Description and application instructions:
Salary £20,858 per annum (pro rata for 6 months)
This is initially for a 6 month period and is open to secondment opportunities for existing HHA staff as well as being advertised more widely for external contacts to apply.
In line with this initiative Bradford hosts Rohingyan families who have fled gross human rights abuses at the hands of the military dictatorship in Burma and have been living in refugee camps in Bangladesh. Further arrivals are expected over the next 12 months and the team will work closely with partner agencies to facilitate the necessary support and links to other services. To support these families in Bradford we are looking to recruit to our team one Support Worker who will have the skills, experience and drive necessary to provide a full range of resettlement services. The language requirements of the group are such that an ability to speak Bangla would be an advantage, although not essential.
To meet this challenge we are looking for an individual with:
A strong commitment to make a significant impact on the lives of some of these most marginalised peoples.
A wide ranging experience of resettlement work including tenancy related support.
An ability to work flexibly to meet the fluctuating demands on the service including evenings and weekends.
The ability to maintain positive working relationships with various housing providers and other agencies.
Experience of developing and implementing individual support plans.
A commitment to effective team working.
Proven organisational and administrative skills.
Excellent interpersonal and communication skills with individuals whose first language may not be English.
IT skills including word processing, e-mail and Internet use.
Please note that applications for the vacancy can only be made online via the link on the Jobs page of Horton Housing’s website. Closing date for completed applications is Wednesday 30 June 2010 at 12noon. Interviews are scheduled to take place on 9/7/10
